Wednesday, 01/07/2015 12-3pmlogo

Wonford House Grounds, Dryden Road, Exeter EX2 5AF handThis July the 1st, we will be ‘Working With Wonford‘ to strengthen our ties and build relationships with our neighbours in Wonford!  With live music, a variety of different information stalls and things to buy, Working with Wonford is going to be Devon Partnership NHS Trust’s biggest event this summer!!  Mental health affects every aspect of our lives and our communities.  At Devon Partnership NHS Trust, we want to break down mental health stigma and discrimination and make the County we serve a better place for everyone!

What’s is Working With Wonford?

We’ve learnt through experience that when we work in collaboration with our neighbours, the residents of the community of Wonford, we achieve great things together!  “Working With Wonford” is a celebration of the thriving and vibrant community we serve and everything we have achieved in partnership together.  This is our way of thanking the people of Wonford for being such great neighbours!

What’s happening at Working With Wonford?coffee cup

Working with Wonford is going to be a great afternoon out for all the family to enjoy in a totally inclusive setting.  From a musical performance by the the students of Wynstream, to Women’s Art Groups and an interactive greeting card making stall, there surely is something for everyone to enjoy!  We will also have lots of information about Mental Wellbeing and Recovery, artisan handmade crafts for sale, and lots of tea and cake (We love cake)!  With so much going on, there’s bound to be something to suit everybody’s taste.  Why not come on down to the grounds of Wonford House, we’d love to see you here!

How did ‘Working With Wonford’ come about?

Last year, people who use our services teamed up with some Exeter-based Community Team staff to create the Together Let’s Communicate (T.L.C.) Community Group!  The group started meeting to share their craft skills and support each other in Recovery.  One day, after meeting at various places, one of the members of the group spoke to a local councillor who was able to help arrange a venue.  Since then, the ties with the Wonford Community have blossomed even more.  The T.L.C. Community Group teamed up with Wonford Community Organiser Sue Bulled to put on a Christmas market, a very successful cake sale last month, and most recently an Easter Market.  All these events are held at the Wonford Community Learning Centre, in the heart of Wonford.  Through collaboration, we have achieved great things together with residents in our area. Working with Wonford is a celebration of what we can achieve together with our neighbours.

What do Devon Partnership NHS Trust actually do?hand DPT

At Devon Partnership NHS Trust, we put Recovery at the heart of everything we do.  Our organisation provides mental health services to a population of 890,000+ people.  We serve 1,000’s of people at any one time.  We are a secondary service, which means you need to be referred by your General Practitioner (GP) to access our services.  However, you are able to refer yourself to the Depression and Anxiety Service (DAS) without going through your GP. For more information about your Devon Partnership NHS Trust, your local Mental Health NHS Trust, please visit our website http://www.devonpartnership.nhs.uk/.

Can I support people who live with mental health difficulties with my finances?

Yes you can!  We have set up a justgiving™ page specifically for the “Working With Wonford” event.  You can view the page by checking the following link www.justgiving.com/workingwithwonford. Your donations will sustain the Trust’s charitable work, benefiting people in Wonford and throughout Devon.  Your donations will be split 50:50 between the Trust’s Special Charitable Fund and to support the continuation of the Together Let’s Communicate (T.L.C.) Community Group.  Thank you for your generosity.

What else will be happening at Working With Wonford?

How do I get to Working With Wonford?

The grounds of Wonford House are easily accessible by foot, bike, or bus. The availability of car parking spaces is very sparse at Wonford House.  We strongly recommend you use an alternative method of transport to avoid disappointment on your arrival. Directions from the Exeter Bus Station by foot or bike: At the roundabout by the bus station, walk up the road towards Heavitree, following the signs for the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.  At the top of the hill there is a cross roads.  You should turn right here and travel down Barrack Road.  Go past the main entrance to the RD&E, and you will come to some traffic lights.  At the traffic lights, turn left for Dryden Road.  After travelling down the road for approximately 400 metres, the entrance to the grounds to Wonford House will be on your right hand side. Directions by bus: Get on the H bus, buying a ticket to the Hospital.  When you alight, there will be a zebra crossing to your left toward the car park.  After crossing the zebra crossing, turn left, following the signs to Wonford House.  Bear right around Wonford House to the main entrance, and you’ve arrived!
